Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2012

is hosting another online Quilt Festival
Here is my entry.  I did not make this quilt...it was made by Kimberly, owner of a local sewing machine and quilt shop.  I had the fortune of machine quilting her satin, embroidered quilt which hung in her booth at the
Northwest Quilting Expo last month.
It measures approximately 90"x90".
Hobbs 80/20 was my choice in batting which shows off the quilting.
I used Floriani polyester threads matching the satin perfectly and quilted feathers, feathers and more feathers inside the sashing and into the border.  Stitched in the ditch around each block and again more feathering inside the embroidered blocks with a McTavishing style background texture.
Best categories:
Favorite professionally quilted quilt
Favorite Bed Quilt
Favorite two color quilt

There are many beautiful quilts on display at the festival...hop over here to see them!

Blogge'rs Quilt Festival 2012

I am entering this quilt in the Blogger's Quilt Festival hosted by Amy's Creative Side
This quilt pattern is called 'Spring Fever' by Buggy Barn.  Over Christmas this past year i was visiting my Mother-in-law Gladys and we spent a few hours sharing what we both love...digging through scraps of fabric and dreaming of the possibilities!  The fabrics in this quilt came from her stash and it was just enough to make a small  36"x48" quilt.  I gave this to my grand niece, Gladys's great granddaughter, Sammy. Together we are passing along love and tradition.
Here you will find a couple previous posts on making this quilt as well as a tutorial.
Head over to the Quilt Festival
and enjoy the show!

Blogger's Quilt Festival

The 4th annual Blogger's festival begins today.
This quilt is a Joined at the Hip design i made years ago. i love appliqué...it's my favorite thing to do and i love how it looks when combined with pieced blocks.

Some quilts i make seem to sit for quite awhile before i finally finish them....
i don't think i ever put this quilt aside.

To see all the quilts from others out in blog land,
Enjoy!

Blogger Festival!!

Thanks to Amy's Creative Side for organizing this event!
And....here is my entry.
This is a Piece o' Cake design which took me 5 years to complete! Mostly because I was so intimated by such small appliqué! Many of the blocks measure 8" finished.
What makes this quilt special to me is not the fact that I did it...and finished it, but that my nieces who at the time were preteens, put names to each block. One for each of their cousins, or sisters or brothers, my parents; Grammy and Poppa and even my dog Lucky. Each name reflects a special interest of that person. Instead of a Chinese Take Out block original to the pattern, I added a church. This is the center of our family.

I've added close ups of a few blocks...which you may click on to enlarge.
