Well, almost. I purchased fabric months ago when i had completed approximately 35 blocks. I like the sashing, setting triangle and corner stone fabrics, but do not like the border fabric i chose. I guess my advice for anyone making this quilt is to wait until the quilt top is all pieced together like in my photo below before choosing
the final border fabric.
This picture does not do my quilt any justice...
it's really much prettier and i am Soooooooo happy this journey is almost over!
I'm headed to Ladies of Liberty quilt shop in Independence, Oregon where i know i will find just the right border fabric
On the wall at LOL, inspiring samples of various
BOMs and Quilting Circles.
Lots of Maggie Bonanoni, Kathy Schmitz
Wool Crazy, Civil War...
Go spend a day exploring the beauty of Oregon's wine country and a definite stop at
The top is gorgeous, Karen! Well done! Yay!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning Karen!! Congratulations on such a beautiful quilt! :-)
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top is amazing. I can see a lot of time and effort has been put into it.
ReplyDeleteFarmers Wife is amazing!!! Absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! Congratulations! I love your colors and strolled through each block on your side bar. I love looking at all the fabrics you chose and love the fact that I have several of the same. Gotta love a big ole stash! The quilt shop is so nice. I would love to go browse, (who am I kidding - actually touch) that beautiful fabric. I have a question if you don't mind. I think this quilt is something my mother and I could do together. My Mom is 84 and still quilting - by hand - bless her heart and a farmer's wife! My question is this: Are these cut from templates in the book? If not, are they hard to figure out? I have seen several in blogland who have made this quilt and understand it can be quite difficult. Please give me your opinion. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFantastic!! You must be pleased! This is a stunning quilt, I bet you have been thinking of quilting designs already.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of that shop, I like the green cupboards.Good luck shopping!
Hello Karen, I have a little surprise for you...go check it out on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! I took a cflass last year that offered patterns for a revised Farmer's Wife. I started out with various colors like yours. Didn't like it. changed to all red and white. Couldn't find enough fabric variations. Started a black and cream. Didn' t like it. Now I see yours and I am going back to the variations of color.!!! Beautiful job.

ReplyDeleteYour finished top is looking sooo great!!!
ReplyDeleteI Love your finished Fw top. Wonderful job. By the way can you give me a little help?
ReplyDeleteI need to know how much fabric one needs to do the sashing and how much for the corner triangles. As you already finished you can probably tell me how much fabric do I need to buy.
Hugs,
Teresa
Karen, your quilt is stunning, a real heirloom! What a wonderful feeling of accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilts, love your blog! Love your Farmer's Wife. I bought the book and, as soon as I finish my own personal ufo project, it's on my list. You are very talented! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI do like the quiltshop. It's a pity that I can't visit it. It's a little bit to far for someone like me, living in the Netherlands LOL
